Now that businesses have done serious work they’re a bit unhappy with their cloud technology suppliers. It turns out that migrations are not easy, and service levels aren’t exactly what they expect.
According to a report by 451 Research, three quarters of organizations are eager to pay a premium for services that are enhanced by their cloud technology suppliers. Just under half (48.7 percent) of the 600 IT specialists insisted said they’d pay to improve their security, 43.3 percent stated they’d pay extra for guaranteed uptime and performance metrics, 33.6 percent would pay more for improved customer service, and 26.4 percent would pay more for enhanced operational direction.

IT shops were also unsatisfied with the security services that they have been getting in their cloud services; only 38.8 percent were fulfilled. However, such services were important to over half (58.1 percent) of the polled.
One in five respondents stated their cloud technology vendors met with their hopes for migrating workloads to and away from platforms that were on-premises.

What I find most intriguing about the 451 Research research is that businesses see the cloud’s worth, and so are willing pay more. However, the cloud technology suppliers aren’t meeting the expectations, particularly.
This expectation gap includes a historical trigger: Enterprises are accustomed to large business vendors with account executives who offer a “single throat to choke.” But so this client service material is new to them cloud technology suppliers started to answer their telephones a few decades before.
I’m also not surprised by the frustrations around cloud migration. Having lived the “migration existence” for 10 decades now, I know that it’s far more complex than most cloud technology suppliers and service suppliers anticipated. There are too many unknowns and idiosyncrasies. But for most businesses, it turns out to be hard and complex to manage, and the poll data is beginning to demonstrate that. This was true in the past for migrations that are on-premises, and it is just as accurate today.
